Fast-growing perennial plants, mallows blossom in the first year, the hollyhock from the second year. The flowers, leaves and marsh mallow root have many healing properties. The plants may be cultivated in nutrient-rich, loose soil in warm location. Marsh mallow is water intensive. Matyó folk art motifs (featured on cover) were added to UNESCO's cultural heritage list in 2012.
