Some arrows have strikingly different plumage from others. The large feathers of so-called “bird-shooting” canes serve the purpose of slowing them down if they fail to hit the target. Our arrow thus does not fly far, but surely within sight. It is mostly stuffed in two ways: either 4pcs 5-6 ”uncut turkey feathers are placed parallel to the end of the canes, or 1-2pcs 10” feathers are screwed onto it in a spiral. Of course, nowadays they are no longer shot at birds, but at tossed polyfoam discs.
